Is the Rewards and Benefits page on our website misleading?

QUESTION:

Good Afternoon

The University promotes regular performance appraisals and opportunities to work flexibly on it’s online “Rewards and Benefits” page.
However, not everyone receives these benefits (myself included) and so isn’t this misleading to potential employees?
Thanks

ANSWER:

The University promotes regular appraisal for all staff. It is looking to introduce an online appraisal system going forward which will enable information to be collated from all areas on development needs more generally. The University has a range of flexible working arrangements and whilst we recognise that not all are appropriate to everyone, we do believe that there is flexibility in working arrangements. Where this applies to the position being advertised it is normally stated in the job description.

Are there any Stoke City ticket deals for staff?

QUESTION:

Now that Staffordshire University sponsors one of the stands at the Brittania Stadium, are there any ticket deals or offers available for staff members? Quite often I hear that Stoke offer tickets for £5 to staff members of sponsors but I have never seen anything where Staffordshire University staff can access these deals.

Also, does Staffordshire University have access to an executive box at the stadium?  If so is there any opportunity for staff members at all levels to use this – or incentives in place for staff to win a place in the executive box?

ANSWER:

The corporate hospitality package (ie Waddington Suite corporate box) the University has negotiated with Stoke City is mainly used to network with and strengthen relationships with existing and potential business clients and partners. Corporate guests for hospitality are carefully selected on a set of business benefits criteria and we ask the members of staff who attend  to write a short report following the match on the outcomes and business opportunities gained by hosting this type of event at the Britannia Stadium.

We do however feel that hospitality should be opened out to staff and students as reward for some of the great work that they do, so for example the Winners of the Celebrating Staff Success ‘Cross University team’ will be taking one of the Waddington Suite hospitality slots for 12 people at the upcoming Stoke City vs West Bromwich Albion match.

As well as staff, we have also invited 18 of our international students to watch the West Bromwich Albion game and have a tour of the Stadium.

Our partnership with the Club has opened up lots of other ‘money can’t buy’ opportunities for our students. The Students’ Union are working with the Club on a number of projects including offering recreational sport sessions as part of their Premier Sports Project and the Union’s  Active Uni’s project. They are also working with Stoke City for the upcoming ‘One Game One Community’ Week of Action.

In addition, Stoke City have said that they will look into the special £5 ticket deals for staff (as club partners) for one or maybe two of the 2012 home games.

What benefits or discounts are staff entitled to?

Question:

Do University staff still get discounted / free copies of Microsoft Office or Windows software for home use? I seem to remember a while ago there was a scheme like this?

Aside from the obvious remuneration, are there any other benefits / discounts that University staff receive and where can I find out details on these? I know about the Cyclescheme and I understand there is a similar scheme for childcare, but there doesn’t seem to be one place where this information is held for a quick glance. Also do we have preferential rates with the local football teams, theatres, gyms, restaurants etc or even discounts with national companies such as the Vauxhall Partners discount scheme http://www.partnersprogramme.co.uk/offers/Vauxhall/

Answer:

The University’s Microsoft Campus agreement allows staff to purchase a copy of Microsoft Office or Windows at home for work purposes providing they purchase the media for the installation through the 3800 Service Desk this costs £23.00 – the professional version of Office for example has a RRP of £429.99

Discounts also apply for any other software which is used throughout the University although the discount can vary between products

Students can also purchase at educational discounts from our vendors Phoenix Software at the URL below

The University offers a wide range of benefits that are available to staff and is constantly keeping these under review. We recognise that these have not been communicated in a comprehensive way in the past and will early in the New Year be launching a guide to these benefits for existing and new staff.
