We are working together to help make the
University Quarter a cleaner, greener, safer, sustainable community.
The Environment and community safety task group was led Penny Vincent from Staffordshire University. The first meeting was on the 3rd February 2016 at YMCA in Hanley.
AirSpace Gallery artist Anna Francis worked with us to get funding from Stoke on Trent City Council to create a Green Route through the University Quarter. We organised a Community Action Day on the 20th April 2016, with litter picking, gardening, walks, information, sports and play activities.
YMCA young people have cleared and developed Arthur’s Garden on Chamberlain Street in Shelton.
We have identified other small neglected spaces to develop as community gardens. We have sown wildflower seeds on various sites around the area.
The first Community Safety task group meeting was led by PC Simon Stone on the 23rd February 2016 at 3pm at Staffordshire University Coalport Hall student accommodation on the Leek Road site. It then joined with the Environment Group to become the Environment and Community Safety Group. Our last meeting was in 2017.
