We watched <em>One for the Money<\/em>, the 2011\u00a0adaptation of the first Stephanie Plum novel,\u00a0as part of the Crime Scene America module.<\/p>\n<p>I think Rotten Tomatoes&#8217; 1 star review of this jolly crime-romcom is a bit unfair. Along with a nice afternoon at the movies, we watched the movie for the way it\u00a0adapts the detective-figure role for a female central character, explored notions of gender and racial representation, and the further development of the crime genre. We used Mulvey&#8217;s discussion of the gendered cinematic\u00a0gaze to consider the extent to which this film challenges Hollywood&#8217;s patriarchal attitudes (it doesn&#8217;t!).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/resizing.flixster.com\/C3MzT33UU2CW2LoO-V-Ja9Wu6y8=\/180x270\/v1.bTsxMTE3NzkxNDtqOzE3MDA4OzIwNDg7ODAwOzEyMDA\" alt=\"One for the Money\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We borrowed the film theatre once again for an English and Creative Writing private screening and the complete cinema experience, complete\u00a0with free pop-corn (my pleasure).
