Stoke in Colour – Contrasts – Photo workshop

At the Art Stop, Church St, Stoke ST4 1BU

Come and work with photographers Tony Jones and Jenny Harper of the Photographers Collective North Staffs to create contrasting pairs of pictures of the Art Stop and its surroundings.

Art Stop photoBring a camera/phone if you have one – we have a small number for loan if you don’t. We will be able to print some of your pictures, and we hope to feature some of the images taken in a forthcoming Photographers Collective exhibition.

Community events at YMCA

Our great Fringe Friends and University Quarter partners YMCA North Staffs hold regular community events.

This June sees the opening of their new Spar shop – a very special business venture. When you shop with them you will be directly investing in children, young people and families as all profits made in store go straight back into providing services.

The grand opening of the new YMCA ‪#‎SPARintheuk‬ store on Saturday 6th June includes the YMCA World Challenge event – trying to break a world goal record, come along for free sessions of football, The fun and activities start at 11:00 a.m. and including Free Running, climbing wall and much more. Food and refreshments will be available.

On the 20th June the YMCA are holding a big arts day supported by Speight of the Art with lots of different types of music, dance and art workshops, all free and open to all. It’s aimed and children, young people and families and runs from 11am to 3pm.

Fantastic Fringe Finale 2015 – 20th June

The Fantastic Fringe Finale Community Day is packed with activities for people of all ages.

The Fringe Community Parade led by B Arts, starts by the Children’s play area in Hanley Park at 11.45am and will go down Boughey Rd to the Leek Rd site of Staffordshire University to arrive at about 12pm.

There will be lots to see and do on Leek Road. Activities will take place at Staffordshire University and Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College. This is the plan for the day so far……

Get creative in the “make it” zones:

Fringe Community Night Walk: Art City

stoke film theatreWe will meet at Stoke Film Theatre in Shelton
to start walking at 6.30pm.

This will be a `Reclaim the Streets’ Style walk, where we will occupy the streets around and within Shelton and Stoke town, embarking on a special night walk together to explore Art City.

During the walk there will be stopping points on the way, with opportunities to hear about some of the fantastic projects and organisations working locally, and some of the activities and groups that you can get involved in. These include YMCA North Staffs talking about the Uprising programme and their new Spar shop.

As part of the London Road Festival, Letting In The Light and Cultural Sisters are collaborating on the Art Stop, a fantastic programme of events at an empty shop in the town centre. We will pop in for a quick look.

The walk will end at around 7.30 pm at B-Arts, Hartshilll Rd, Stoke with a chance to share a cup of something warm & snacks. We will have a tour of their building including the new co-working spaces for students and artists.We will find out about the Art City programme and hear from the consortium partners Airspace, bitjam, Cultural Sisters, Letting In the Light, picl, and Restoke.

The event will finish at around 9pm.

Please wear strong shoes and layers including waterproof clothes.

We suggest you park on the Staffordshire University car park on College Rd in Shelton, Stoke on Trent which is open and free after 6pm.

You will make your own way back home from B Arts in Stoke, so please plan transport accordingly.

Calling artists and crafters – sell your wares on 21st June

If you are a local creative and would like to sell your arts, crafts and other wares, you can book a stall at the Fringe Art and Craft Market on the 21st June.

Fringe art and craft market poster with image of stallsIt will be open during the Fantastic Fringe Finale alongside workshops and performances. It will open with a community carnival parade down College Rd from Hanley Park so we are hoping for lots of visitors!

Stalls are free for Staffordshire University students and staff, only £10 for people who are Staffordshire University Graduates/ previous students and a competitive £20 for local artisans and businesses.

You will need to book by the 19th June to secure a place. The market will be held in the Flaxman Film Theatre foyer or the Pavilion, depending on space. We will allocate spaces on the 20th June. Please return your booking form to Penny Vincent and pay your booking fee with the University finance cashiers.

Fringe Art and Craft Market

Following the success of the UniQ market held during Fringe 2013 the Fantastic Fringe Festival Finale this year will feature an Art and Craft market.
