Our ‘Adult Learners: Preparation for HE’ event is aimed and geared to adult learners who are entering or thinking about study at a Higher Education level.

Perhaps you want to do something for yourself? Fancy a change? Or want to gain a degree in order to progress in your career?

Whatever your reasons the day at Staffordshire University will enable learners to gather a breadth of information and guidance about the possibility of starting University. Whatever your motivation for returning to education, there are enormous benefits to studying at University. As well as giving you a wealth of knowledge in your chosen subject area, returning to Higher Education gives you the opportunity to build your confidence, enhance your career prospects, meet like-minded people and develop a range of transferable skills. With an array of unique talks and subject lectures, learners will be able to gain a valuable insight to the help and support available to mature students. poster for adult learner event At Staffordshire we recognise and value the impact that mature learners have upon the world of work and industry, our mature student-centric approachis evident with the fact that over 63% of our students are in fact classified as mature.

At our ‘Adult Learners: Preparation for HE’ event learners will be able to choose two subject seminars which will be carried out by our academic lecturers which are leading specialists in their subjects. Learners will have the opportunity to discover and acquire a clear picture about what they could learn, how they will be assessed and what kind of employment or professional development opportunities their chosen course could lead to.

Many students at Staffordshire manage to organise part-time work around full-time study or conversely part-time study around full-time work.

Our ‘Student Finance Talk’ which will provide a comprehensive detailed explanation surrounding the complexities of student finance. The talk will outline and focus upon what kind of financial support is available, especially considering that mature students may have increased reservations about the ability to start university particularly if they commitments and people that are dependent on you. However, whatever your circumstances the support here at Staffordshire will allow you to realise your potential and allow you to strike a balance between your home, work and academic life.

Gallery 116 Open Photography exhibition

  • Location:  Gallery 116 Church Street, Stoke town centre

In June 2014, Gallery 116 will launch its first ONE ONE SIX Summer Open, an open-submission exhibition for which all photographers are eligible.

There isn’t an overall theme for the first exhibition but there will be categories and prizes for submissions, therefore, they champion a diverse approach and collection of student, enthusiast, professional, young and old.

The exhibition will be held at Gallery 116 and also extended in the adjacent building (the ex-Spode factory) with a purpose assembled photography exhibition space.
