Staffordshire University Sports Day

Join us for a friendly mixed rounders tournament on the Leek Road campus playing fields in Shelton, Stoke on Trent.

rounders-logoFollowing on from the success of last year’s Centenary Cricket Match, this year we will be holding a legacy event to commemorate the centenary celebrations and celebrate the hard work of all our University communities.

Join us for a relaxed afternoon of fun centred around an informal mixed rounders tournament. The University communities are encouraged to attend – to celebrate, spend time together, reflect on the year’s activity and most importantly, enjoy the company of their friends and colleagues in an informal setting.

The Rules

Staff, students, alumni and members of the community are being invited to submit teams of nine players and two reserves for the tournament. All people of any abilities are welcome to get involved – although we encourage healthy competition and bit of team rivalry, it’s important to remember the main theme of the day is fun!

Chuck it, Whack it, Leg it, Smile

Mixed rounders rules state that no more than five males should make up the team. Other than that, the basic rules you need to master are:

rounders rules

There will be teams of University staff, students and ex-students and the local community. Teams should be nine players and two reserves. The first twelve teams to register will be put through to take part in the tournament. Your team may even be called upon as a reserve even if not successful in getting through in the first instance, so please keep your team’s diaries free.

Once you’ve mastered the basic rules, you can download the official rules of the game from www.roundersengland.co.uk.

Getting involved!

We are encouraging teams to have a theme – so whether it be a colour, fancy dress or silly shirts

Please do feel free to encourage supporters to attend and cheer on your team!

Get in touch with Julie Smith on ext: 4116 or email public@staffs.ac.uk if you would like more information or would like to put a community team forward to play.

picnicRefreshment stalls from Staffordshire University Catering will be available on the day, however, you are encouraged to bring along picnic baskets and rugs to make a real afternoon of it.
