Bottle Voting & Group Projects

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

One of the coolect ideas from the last Teachnology Supported Learning Showcase was the Creative Communities bottle voting system – if you can call skittles a technology I suppose – anyway, this year for 2A2B we asked them to make kickstarter pitch videos.

One thing I wanted was a very quick response to find out how successful the pitches had been – and since we were holding it in the Red Lecture Theater an online Google Doc form or a Facebook poll wouldn’t have worked. In the past we’ve used paper to hold a popular vote but that’s had it’s own issues when you scale it up to 100’s of people…

So, in a a slightly more dawn markets style, we did marbles-and-plastic-pint-glass voting

2nd Year Groups use of technology

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

So at the end of 4 weeks in the 2nd year group projects and some interesting trends are emerging, when it comes to the tools used by the 2nd years games groups for communication of ideas (discussion on the games design document and items like concept art)

Usage of Tech in 2A

In some cases they are happy to use tools provided (in the case of the Wiki they have to – it’s part of the assessment), and there’s been no prompting to use other aspects, but certainly the ones that are using Facebook, off their own back, seem slightly more cohesive as groups.

Interesting as well to see the range of use in the Digital Academy Forum – from not at all to very heavy usage. Last year we encouraged them to set up their own forums, but we haven’t done that this year (I think one or two of the groups might have, and as a contrast there’s a smaller scale 3rd year module where one member of whichever team is obsessed with starting forums for games, even if there’s only 2 or 3 people in a group).

It will be interesting to see how this develops, over the semester, and next semester when the groups continue with the more practical aspects of making the game.
