Supporting a culture of openness in the NHS – a policy evaluation

Department of Health including NIHR, GB

The tenderer will conduct a single research project on supporting a culture of openness in the NHS, on creating a culture of prioritising care, improving openness, detecting poor care and ensuring clear accountability. The total budget is worth £475,000 over a period of 30 months.

UK-France joint PhD programme

Ministry of Defence, GB

This aims to develop research in key areas of mutual interest to France and the UK, such as autonomous underwater vehicles, meta-materials, synthetic biology, sensors, vehicle armour, and human and social sciences. Five PhDs are expected to be funded.

Research grants

British Ecological Society, GB

These support innovative ecological research and pump-priming projects, and help early-career ecologists to establish an independent research career. Grants for small projects are worth up to £5,000 each, and early-career ecologists’ grants are worth up to £20,000 each.

Emslie Horniman anthropological scholarship fund

Royal Anthropological Institute, GB

This encourages postgraduates to pursue fieldwork, to develop their careers and make significant contributions to the study of the growth of civilisations, habits and customs, religious and physical characteristics of the non-European peoples and of prehistoric and non-industrial man in Europe. Awards are in the range of £500 to £7,000.

Men’s health and emergent longer-term conditions

Burdett Trust for Nursing, GB

These aim to support nurse-led projects that will help to define proactive strategies and interventions that seek to promote better self-care and self-management and reverse the negative impact that undetected and untreated men’s longer-term health challenges may impart. Grants are typically between £10,000 and £200,000.

Hudswell international research scholarship

Institution of Engineering and Technology, GB

This is awarded to assist members with advanced research work leading to the award of a doctorate at an internationally recognised university or research establishment in the field of electrical, electronic, manufacturing or information engineering. One scholarship worth £5,000 is available.

Programming development fund

British Film Institute, GB

This helps film programmers and exhibitors put together programmes of films which will be enhanced or underpinned by curation, interpretation or education activity. The total budget is worth up to £1.4 million per year.

UK research partnership investment fund

Higher Education Funding Council for England, GB

This supports large-scale projects that can attract substantial co-investment from private sources, building on the research excellence in the higher education sector. Each project may receive between £10 million and £50m. The fund may support between four and 20 projects.

Erasmus for young entrepreneurs

Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, EU

This aims to expand and strengthen the existing network of intermediary organisations which act as local contact points for newly established entrepreneurs as well as experienced entrepreneurs in the participating countries. The maximum grant amount per specific agreement is €800,000 with a reimbursement of up to 90 per cent of eligible costs. Between 20 and 30 framework partnership agreements are expected to be signed.
