Assessment Methods

The STA Award in Teaching Swimming is tutor assessed through the completion of worksheets, schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation forms and practical teaching. In addition to this, there is an external assessment of a 30-minute practical lesson on the final day of the course.

On successful completion of the STA Award in Teaching Swimming learners will have completed and been assessed on:

  • Developing 2 x ten-week schemes of work, covering delivery too beginners and improvers participants • Developing 3 x lesson plans, covering non-swimmer, beginner and improver participants • Completing 3 x lesson evaluation forms • Delivering 2.5 hours of practical teaching with non-swimmer, beginner and improver participants, 30 minutes of which is externally assessed. All learning outcomes and assessment criteria in the units must be achieved in order for the learner to be deemed competent and pass the qualification.

Incorrect or insufficient portfolio answers can be corrected or re-submitted in the notes section at the end of the portfolio worksheets. Alternatively, they can be addressed through oral supplementary questioning. All additional questions and responses must be recorded in the notes section of the worksheets.

All practical elements must be completed and performed independently by the learner without prompting by the tutor.

Blurton Reds U-15 Football Club Require Football Coach!

Blurton Red’s (under 15’s) Football Club are looking for an enthusiastic football coach to join their club.  The perfect candidate would need to be reliable, have a positive attitude and undertake relevant safeguarding checks.

You will need to be available to train the boys each Tuesday evening 7:30pm-8:30pm and encourage the boys on match days (each Sunday). It is essential that you have a driving license as away matches will take place in and around the Stoke-on-Trent area.

If you are a dedicated individual who wishes to enhance our boy’s fitness, progress and football outlook then we would love to hear from you.  No experience is necessary, however, we would ask that you are currently undertaking a sports/football qualification.

All successful candidates must hold a minimum NGB level 1 sporting qualification, an in date FA safeguarding protecting children and First Aid certificate.  All coaches will be required to be a member of the FA licensed coaches club holding an enhanced DBS certificate or subject to an enhanced DBS check prior to commencing.

Last Chance Opportunity: Multi-Skills Level 1!!!

The Course:

The Multi-Skills Level 1 Award has been developed to provide volunteers, young people, youth and community workers and community sports coaches and leaders with a multi-skill approach to coaching young people in their local community. The workshop will provide a chance to experience games across a range of sporting categories and learners will combine their existing coaching and leadership skills and experience with the games, adaptations and top tips within the workshop to engage young people in a range of multi sports.

Aims of the Workshop:

  • To introduce 4 categories of fundamental movements and sports skills
  • To explore principles of play within 4 fundamental sports skill categories
  • To deliver a range of adapted practices and games
  • To explore coaching points, adaptations and questions for understanding

Free Level 2 Qualification in Sports Leadership

The Level 2 Qualification in Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to lead groups of people in sport/activity, under indirect supervision.

The qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of sport within the community. It is a fun and practical qualification with no entrance requirements or final examinations to sit.

You do not need any qualifications to attend the course but it is recommended that you have a basic knowledge of sport & physical activity and interest in sports coaching and leadership.

Monday 29th October to Friday 2nd November 2018

Time: 9.30-4pm each day

Location: Fenton Manor Sports Complex, Stoke-on-Trent

Cost: Free (a deposit of £31 plus booking fee is required. However, the course cost (£31) will be reimbursed upon completion of the course and volunteering hours).

Age: 16+

Volunteering Hours

You will be required to complete 12 hours volunteering for School Games Events and Competitions.

You will also be required to complete 10 hours volunteering for the qualification (where these hours are completed will determine which qualification you receive). There is the possibility of combining the above and you will be supported to do this.
