Sport and Physical Activity at the YMCA

An organisation called ASHA North Staffordshire, which is a group which was set up in 2006 by Godefroid Seminega (from Rwanda) to support asylum seekers from the Great Lakes region of Africa but today it greets people fleeing persecution, civil conflict, war and sexual violence from all over the world. There is an expected 1000 asylum seekers displaced to Stoke on Trent many with no support mechanisms available apart from this charity.

The charity currently run a football session at the YMCA in Stoke on a Saturday 11am-12.30pm and are looking for people to help and support the activity. There are also opportunities to deliver other activities if you are willing and able too.

Alongside your course, you are encouraged to complete national governing body (NGB) coaching qualifications to improve your employability prospects whilst at university, preparing you for you future career and progression into industry. Here at Staffordshire University, we have a range of NGB course at significantly reduced costs to ensure that you the opportunity to undertake courses that will enable you to reach your potential; these reduced cost courses are often 50%+ less than what it would cost if you did these through another provider. Furthermore, to enable you to experience industry, there are a range of internships available through the university that will provide you with experience working in the field.

Most opportunities are on a first come, first served basis so please register your interest as soon as possible.

Please ensure that you look at the calendar and when you find a course/internship that you would like to complete and register your interest asap. If you are an aspiring coach, it will be a prerequisite to have attained NGB qualifications prior to being given employment, therefore, get yourself on the right career track as soon as possible by taking up these opportunities!

Sports Works: Health, Education and Coaching

Sport Works

Sport Works (Midlands) Ltd. is an award winning provider of sport health and educational activities meeting the needs of children and young adults with disability or SEN.

In conjunction with Sport England, we will be running a programme of mixed sport sessions targeting young adults in the 16 to 20 age range.

To deliver the sessions we need a lead and a number of support coaches. The lead coach must have at least a level 2 coaching badge in a mainstream sport, for assistant’s level one or equivalent is desired. In both cases an interest in or experience of disability sport is desirable.

Competitive rates of pay are offered for what will be a self-employed engagement.

Successful applicants will have to undergo enhanced DBS clearance checks.

The free coaching qualifications, training and mentoring, gained from shadowing experience coaches, allows you to develop as a coach and provides you with the valuable experience employers are looking for when apply for future jobs.

Info: Our Multi-Skills Internship has been successfully running for the last 10 years, linked closely with our partners ASM. Successful applicants will be put in to groups where there will assist and deliver a variety of activities alongside the experienced coaches of ASM, improving children’s ability, balance and coordination (ABC’s).

Team Staffs Assistant Coach

The Sports Hub are looking for ambitious coaches who would like to play a pivitol role in our BUCS Sports programme this year. We are looking for people to act as assistant coaches to our highly qualified head coaches in a wide variety of sports.

Requirements:

Minimum of level 1

Ability to commit to training sessions and match days as required in agreement with the head coach of your chosen sport.

Team Staffs Match Analysts

Team Staffs are looking for match analysts to work with our Performance Sports during the next year. We are looking for at least 2 people to help video and help our head coaches to analyse matches on a Wednesday afternoon/evening.

This role is a very practical, hands on role and you could make the difference between our teams being ‘good’ and ‘great’.
