Competition guidelines 2022

Do you have a passion for writing, or an interest in creating media content?
The Future Journalist Awards is the competition for you!

The Future Journalist Awards 2022 is your chance to showcase your talent and win some great prizes. Organised by Staffordshire University, the annual competition aims to inspire tomorrow’s journalists, bloggers, and content creators.

Do you have a passion for writing, or an interest in creating videos or podcasts? To survive and thrive in the modern world of media, today’s journalists have to embrace digital technology.

Select a topic that interests you, or something you’re passionate about. Choose between submitting a piece of written content, such as an article, review or blog, or creating a short video or audio clip using a smartphone. We can only accept individual not group entries.

If you are shortlisted for your category, you will be invited to a special awards day in March 2022 at Staffordshire University. It will also be streamed remotely on our YouTube channel.

There will be three winners per age category:

  • Best written content
  • Best vlog
  • Best audio

The winners will all receive:

  • £50 Amazon voucher
  • Your name and winning entry published on the StaffsLive website
  • Newsday experience in Staffordshire University’s state-of-the-art Newsroom

The competition is simple to enter…

SCHOOL YEARS 3 and 4

Write 250 words or create a 30 second video/audio clip on a topic of your choice.

SCHOOL YEARS 5 and 6

Write 350 words or create a 45 second video/audio clip on a topic of your choice.

SCHOOL YEARS 7 to 9

Write 450 words or create a 1-minute video/audio clip on a topic of your choice.

SCHOOL YEARS 10 and 11

Write 550 words or create a 1-minute and 30-second video/audio clip on a topic of your choice.

SCHOOL YEARS 12 and 13

Write 650 words or create a 2-minute video/audio clip on a topic of your choice.

If you are submitting a video or audio entry that may be too large to send over email, you can submit it as a Dropbox link or via file sharing site wetransfer, please send to: futurejournalist@staffs.ac.uk

The deadline for the Future Journalist Awards 2022 is Friday, March 4, 2022.
