Philip Astley Project

Janet Hetherington is working with The Philip Astley project, a Heritage Lottery Funded project managed by Staffordshire University. Over the next few months, Janet will be evaluating the impact of the programme of Philip Astley inspired events in the region, ranging from a bespoke exhibition at the Museum to Business Engagement events.

Philip Astley was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1742. Internationally he is recognised as the ‘father of the modern circus’ but was not well known in his home town. The Philip Astley committee, formed of arts and heritage organisations, the local authority and individual community members, were keen to raise Astley’s profile amongst local people and worked with Staffordshire University to secure the funding.

There will be a business engagement event on Wednesday 20th July in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. See Eventbrite to find out more.
