An audience with our National Teaching Fellows

The Higher Education Academy’s National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) Scheme is a fantastic way to recognize your excellence in learning and teaching. To provide you with successful candidates’ views, come and join our audience with Dr Liz Boath and Emeritus Prof. Bernard Moss to find out more about the scheme and most importantly the benefits of being an NTF – not just the £10,000 to be used for your own professional development

The first of these sessions will take place in Stoke on 14th January 2013 at 1.00 pm till 2.00 pm in BG46, Brindley Building. A few places are still available for Staffordshire University staff. So if your interest is sparked and you want to know learn more from Liz and Bernard, then contact Liz at E.Boath@staffs.ac.uk to confirm your attendance.

Big Lottery: funding event at Staffordshire University – February 5th

We are really pleased that Stephna Davis-Watts, Policy and Partnership Officer at the Big Lottery Fund is coming to the Ashley Centre, Stoke on February 5th.

1-00pm -4-30pm

Initially the Big lottery were reluctant to come to the University as they equated it entirely with research related work – we have persuaded them otherwise.

We have asked Stephna to make a presentation on the current opportunities for large project funding from the Big lottery and to discuss large project ideas with colleagues in the university and with  partner organisations.

We are inviting colleagues from across the university in areas of interest that the Big Lottery can fund; these include

  •  Low carbon
  • The Environment
  • Creative communities
  • Community engagement
  • Arts and creative technologies
  • Physical activity
  • Mental health
  • Public health
  • Social enterprise

The Big lottery is geared towards partnership funding – you could use the event to scope out a project idea with a group of partners –with a Big lottery expert on hand –  if there are individuals you would like us to invite as well do let us know.

There will be an information day on making applications to the Marie Curie ITN and RISE funds. This event is ideal for anyone who missed the Universities Marie Curie talk last Wednesday or is considering applying.

ITNs are Innovative Training Networks. They aim to create training programmes between the academic and non-academic sector to exchange knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit.

RISE funds are Research and Innovation Staff Exchanges. They are staff exchanges to share knowledge and ideas from research to market. They are for academics and non-academics.

The event will be on Wednesday 15 January 2013 in Brussels, but can also be followed by webstream. This stream will start 12:45pm.
The deadline for ITN applications is 9 April 2014.
The deadline for RISE applications is 24 April 2014.

These funds are part of the new Horizon 2020 calls. Anyone who is still not sure what Horizon 2020 is all about can get an overview on the UKRO website, plus fact sheets.

ICT KTN Horizon 2020 International Brokerage event

ICT KTN are publicising a brokerage event that the Department for Business Innovation and Skills are staging in collaboration with counterparts in France, in the areas of Cloud Computing and Future Internet for those organisations intending to seek funding in Horizon 2020. The event will take place in Paris on the 10th of January 2014.

Organisations with a firm project concept in the Future Internet area are being invited to make a 5 minute presentation at the brokerage session, outlining the idea and the partner support they are seeking.
Organisations selected will receive £750 in support for travel and subsistence. Selection will be made on the basis of relevance to the subject area as defined in the WP extract.

UKRO and H2020 is now Launched!!

Hurrah!! At last all of the next Horizon 2020 proposals have been released. Following a great UKRO session yesterday with Eevi from the Brussels office (see pic below) the External Projects Team hosted a great day long programme of presentations on Erasmus + and the H2020 calls. We have been anticipating the launch which happened yesterday and we are now in the process of producing briefing sheets to help you to digest all of the information, but in the meantime you can access all of the latest info from the Commission HERE

Designer in residence workshops

There are places available to register for two workshops with Designer in Residence Jonathan Butters on Friday 13th December.

The sessions are:

How to find and brief a designer 9.30am – 11.00am

• Once you have a specification and a brief you can try to find some talent to help deliver a great solution
• An interactive journey to find who else might be relevant and help them understand how the process of selection is often very informative and can help focus the project

 

Design as an engine of commercialisation 11.30am – 1.30pm

• Examples and discussion of how the design process fits into the commercialisation process for innovative products and services

INTERREG IVB North West Europe Event

photo.JB3Staffordshire University staff attended a partnership event in Roubaix, France on the 14th November 2013. The day long event was led by INTERREG IVB North West Europe (NWE) funded by ERDF, the aim was to discuss the new programme and facilitate patnership opportunities around three key themes, Innovation, Low Carbon and Renewable Materials.

Sacha Oberweis represented ARBOR a University led project on BioMass. Representing the Office of Sustainability, John Adlen was championing the setting up of “Urban Labs” and Jose Beech from ECD took part in discussions on Innovation.

And the Doctor Said….

Staff are being invited to the launch event of the ‘And the Doctor said…’ project exhibition. This is a creative research project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council as part of their ‘Connected Communities’ programme.

The launch is taking place on Friday 6th December 2pm-4pm at Burslem School of Art.

It has involved a series of workshops run by creative writers, storytellers and actors, in which people have reflected upon and written about their experiences of healthcare in North Staffordshire.

As well as the wealth of writing from the project, we also have a number of films, photos and recordings, made by Unique Media Production, which will be included in the launch event.

Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the achievements of the project and the people who have taken part in it.

 EU Energy Focus, the National Contact Point for Energy in Horizon 2020, and the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network are arranging a series of webinars on the topics covered by the draft Horizon 2020 Work Programme for 2014. It is hoped that 2014 work programmes will be published on 11th December, so for an early insight colleagues are advised to join these webinars or visit the site afterwards to listen to the recordings for more detail about the funding available.
