Culture Programme Workshops

There will be 12 Briefing sessions on the new Creative Europe programme, held between 13-31 January, in 12 venues across England, Scotland and Wales. Sessions closest to Staffordshire University are in Birmingham, Bradford, Liverpool or Nottingham.  Each Briefing will run for 2 hours, and will provide background information on Creative Europe, as well as detailed information on the new Culture programme strands (projects, translation, platforms, networks) and some information on the new Media programme. Sessions cost £80.

There will also be workshops to help people prepare applications between 3-6 February. In Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London. They cost £100.

Launch Event for Secure Societies Challenge in Horizon 2020

A launch event will be held for the Secure Societies challenge of Horizon 2020 in London on 18 February 2014.

Secure Societies comprises four calls:

  1. Disaster Resilience
  2. Fight Against Crime and Terrorism
  3. Border Security and External Security
  4. Digital Security

The event will provide networking opportunities between potential partners. There will be a presentation on the Horizon 2020 funding and speakers from the UK Government will talk about the Secure Societies programme, with a particular focus on UK priorities.

An audience with our National Teaching Fellows

The Higher Education Academy’s National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) Scheme is a fantastic way to recognize your excellence in learning and teaching. To provide you with successful candidates’ views, come and join our audience with Dr Liz Boath and Emeritus Prof. Bernard Moss to find out more about the scheme and most importantly the benefits of being an NTF – not just the £10,000 to be used for your own professional development

The first of these sessions will take place in Stoke on 14th January 2013 at 1.00 pm till 2.00 pm in BG46, Brindley Building. A few places are still available for Staffordshire University staff. There will be an information day on making applications to the Marie Curie ITN and RISE funds. This event is ideal for anyone who missed the Universities Marie Curie talk last Wednesday or is considering applying.

ITNs are Innovative Training Networks. They aim to create training programmes between the academic and non-academic sector to exchange knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit.

RISE funds are Research and Innovation Staff Exchanges. They are staff exchanges to share knowledge and ideas from research to market. They are for academics and non-academics.

The event will be on Wednesday 15 January 2013 in Brussels, but can also be followed by webstream. This stream will start 12:45pm.
The deadline for ITN applications is 9 April 2014.
The deadline for RISE applications is 24 April 2014.

These funds are part of the new Horizon 2020 calls. Anyone who is still not sure what Horizon 2020 is all about can get an overview on the UKRO website, plus fact sheets.

And the Doctor Said….

Staff are being invited to the launch event of the ‘And the Doctor said…’ project exhibition. This is a creative research project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council as part of their ‘Connected Communities’ programme.

The launch is taking place on Friday 6th December 2pm-4pm at Burslem School of Art.

It has involved a series of workshops run by creative writers, storytellers and actors, in which people have reflected upon and written about their experiences of healthcare in North Staffordshire.

As well as the wealth of writing from the project, we also have a number of films, photos and recordings, made by Unique Media Production, which will be included in the launch event.

Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the achievements of the project and the people who have taken part in it.

Getting up to Speed on European Funding

Book your place on Staffordshire University’s annual workshop, Getting up to Speed on European Funding.

Special guest, Eevi Laukkanen, will be coming to Staffordshire University on 11 December 2013. Eevi is from UKRO in Brussels and will be talking about the new European funding streams being launched in January 2014.

The event will be held in LT113 Ashley. There are three open sessions which staff are invited to book on onto:

9:30-11:55 Welcome to Horizon 2020, LT113 Ashley, Stoke
• Horizon 2020, the replacement for FP7 which funds research and innovation

12:10-13:00 Discovering Erasmus+, LT113 Ashley, Stoke
• Erasmus+, funding education and vocational training scheme

14:00-14:45 H2020 rules of participation and financial models LT113 Ashley, Stoke

Funding opportunities for ICT research

The ICT Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and the ICT National Contact Point are organising a half day event at Aston University to promote forthcoming opportunities for funding from the Horizon 2020 programme. Horizon 2020 is the new European Commission funding programme for research, technological development and innovation. 

This event will provide an overview of the funding available and importantly the range of support in place to help people benefit from these opportunities. ICT is a fundamental part of Horizon 2020 in both addressing new ICT developments and developing the use of ICT to support societal challenges.  Access to finance schemes are also available to support innovation in SMEs.

Getting up to Speed on European Funding

Special guest, Eevi Laukkanen, will be coming to Staffordshire University on 11 December 2013. Eevi is from UKRO in Brussels and will be talking about the new European funding streams being launched in January 2014.

The new funds include:

  • Horizon 2020, the replacement for FP7 which funds research and innovation
  • Erasmus+, funding education and vocational training scheme.

 

Horizon 2020 is the EU funding programme for research and innovation. The official start for the programme is 1 January 2014. There are opportunities for individual researchers and groups of researchers to apply for funding.

Erasmus+ consolidates education and vocational training schemes into one programme, with the addition of Sport. Erasmus+ will replace the Lifelong Learning Programme, Youth in Action, Erasmus Mundus, ALFA III, TEMPUS EDULINK in one over-arching scheme.

The Universities External Projects Team will be hosting the event in the Ashley Building Stoke. We do not have full details of the schedule yet, but for now we would like you to save the date in your diary.

Innovation Design Development

A workshop for staff with Staffordshire University Designer in Residence, Jonathan Butters
Jonathan specialises in bringing design solutions to healthcare products, medical devices, laboratory equipment, and consumer, leisure and domestic products. Before founding his two businesses, he was a Mechanical Engineer and then lectured in 3D and product design in both Further and Higher Education.
Jonathan Butters has created and managed two innovation consultancies, Jab Design and Butters Innovation, operating in the UK and abroad. Jab Design, offered product design and technology development to small start-ups through to large blue-chips, while Butters Innovation has, since 2008, focused on the strategic development of disruptive innovation, particularly in hi-tech university spin outs.
