Marie Sklodowska-Curie Co-funding

This fund should be of interest to doctoral or fellowship projects which are either new or already have funding. They can be run at regional, national or international level.

Scheme: H2020-MSCA-COFUND-2015 Marie Sklodowska-Curie co-funding of regional, national and international programmes

Overview: This aims to stimulate regional, national or international programmes to foster excellence in researchers’ training, mobility and career development. This will be achieved by co-funding new or existing regional, national, and international programmes to open up to, and provide for, international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary research training as well as transnational and cross-sectoral mobility of researchers at all stages of their career.

Applicants must submit multi-annual proposals for new or existing doctoral programmes or fellowship programmes that may be run at regional, national or international level. Doctoral programmes address the development and broadening of the research competencies of early-stage researchers. Fellowship programmes fund individual research training and career development fellowships for experienced researchers. Support cannot be awarded to researchers who are already permanently employed at the host institution. Limitations regarding the researchers’ origin and destination should be avoided. Research teams will not be funded. Participants are required to be legal entities established in a member state or associated country that fund or manage doctoral or fellowship programmes for researchers. International European interest organisations that fund or manage doctoral or fellowship programmes for researchers can also participate.

Budget: The total indicative budget for this call in 2015 is €80 million. Funding is given at flat rates.

Deadlines: Proposals invited between 14 April 2015 and 5pm Brussels local time, 1 October 2015.

There will be an information day on making applications to the Marie Curie ITN and RISE funds. This event is ideal for anyone who missed the Universities Marie Curie talk last Wednesday or is considering applying.

ITNs are Innovative Training Networks. They aim to create training programmes between the academic and non-academic sector to exchange knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit.

RISE funds are Research and Innovation Staff Exchanges. They are staff exchanges to share knowledge and ideas from research to market. They are for academics and non-academics.

The event will be on Wednesday 15 January 2013 in Brussels, but can also be followed by webstream. This stream will start 12:45pm.
The deadline for ITN applications is 9 April 2014.
The deadline for RISE applications is 24 April 2014.

Funding for Staff Exchanges

The European Commission are running a final round of funding under the Marie Curie Fellowships.  They help academic staff in different countries to develop their experience, or bring new expertise to Institutions. The three types of fellowships are open to all kinds of research areas.

IIF –International Incoming Fellowships -Experienced researchers outside the EU carry out high level research in an EU institution for 2-3 years –These are useful if you know someone from outside Europe that you would like to bring to the UK to work at the University.

IEF-Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development – Experienced researchers develop a long term training plan enable them to advance significantly in their career. They go to a host organisation in Europe for 12-24 months. An interesting way for Staffordshire University to get involved with these might be if you know someone in another European country that you would like to get over to the UK.

IOF –International Outgoing Fellowships for Career Development – Experienced researchers carry out high level research in countries outside of the EU for up to three years. These projects might be of interest if you feel you wish to work in a different country for a number of years, you will need to know where you want to work.

You have until 14 August 2013 to apply.

Applicants will need a clear project idea, as the EU is looking for quite detailed bids. However, if your project idea is well defined, it is a relatively straightforward application process.

The funds do not cover University overheads. It is essentially a flat rate payment to the staff doing the exchange and flat rate payment for a management fee.

Staffordshire University has not made as much use of these funds as we could have done, we don’t have any applications in the pipeline at the moment, whereas Keele University are looking at submitting fourteen bids! The External Projects Team is able to support with bid writing, but advise that you start working it up as soon as possible, if you are interested in applying please email externalprojects@staffs.ac.uk. If you don’t think you are ready to apply for this round it is expected that similar funding opportunities will be available next year in the in new Horizon 2020 programme.
