An Essential Guide to a Staffordshire University Open Day

Group taking a tour at an Open Day

An open day might seem a bit overwhelming and you might now know where to start.

In general though, I think it is important to go to open days. As on paper a university might look just okay, but then you visit and you end up really liking the university. Or on the other hand, somewhere might seem really impressive but then you visit and you discover that you don’t like it as much as you thought you would.

That being said, I thought I’d give you a quick guide to an open day and some of the essential things you need to do!

Firstly a campus tour – which does what it says on the tin really, it’s a good idea to get a sense of what the campus is like and what facilities or venues there are here. These campus tours usually last about 45 minutes to an hour.

Another tour that’s important to go on is accommodation as you will most likely be living on campus and you will want to see if you like the look of where you will be potentially living. You will be shown the three different types of accommodation we have including example rooms and general information about our accommodation and what facilities the living spaces have. The accommodation tours usually last 30 to 45 minutes.

All tours run throughout the day as well, and the campus tours are run by student ambassadors and the accommodation tours are ran by the residence life team. They are all current students who go here and they will be able to give you a greater sense of student life and answer any questions you might have. This doesn’t just apply to the tours either, the student ambassadors will always be available to help or answer any questions.

cropped-IMG_8610-.jpgNext is your course talk  – usually one happens in the morning and then one in the afternoon depending on which one you can make. There you will meet with your course leader and tutors. They will tell you how the course works and give you a tour of the facilities that you will be able to use on your course and you can ask them any questions you have as well.

The services that we have available at the university are also there for you to speak to if you have any questions or queries. For example, if you have a disability you can speak to the student enabling centre about the support they have available for you. Or if you want to know more about the entry requirements for the course you want to do you can speak to people from admissions too.

I hope this helped in some way if you’re attending the open day! If you can’t attend the our next Open Day, there shall be more open days in the future so keep an eye out on the university website for when those dates are announced!

Karis here! I came to an open day at Staffs and fell in love, now I’m in my third year studying Photography! I’m part of a Dance club, and love to hang out at Ember Lounge (the food is amazing!) I’m #ProudToBeStaffs because of the efforts made to have the student voice be heard – getting to university is what I’m most proud of, too.
