Horizon 2020 factsheets

Horizon 2020 is the new European Commission funding programme for collaborative research, development and innovation activities from 2014 – 2020. We will be promoting these workprogrammes at our UKRO event on 11th December. In advance of then, the Horizon 2020 draft work programmes are coming out thick and fast providing an indication of the topics you can bid for.  The External Projects Team has condensed these into a series of factsheets, providing you with an overview of the main funding opportunities. Additional factsheets will be produced as more work programmes become available. If you would like further information on any of the topics presented, please contact externalprojects@staffs.ac.uk for access to the full draft work programme document.

Horizon 2020 Condensed Factsheet

A new factsheet outlining the new European Research Programmes –Horizon 2020 has been launched by UKRO today.

The factsheet nicely condenses the programme to show what research areas will be covered by the funding, who should apply and what is funded.

The External Projects Team will be getting out lots of information on the new programme over the coming weeks in preparation for the launch in January 2014.  This document provides a good starting point to give an overview of the new scheme.

Set up your own Specialised Funding Search with Research Professional

Research Professional provides an easy way to find research funding for your work. You can search by discipline, type of funding or a whole range of other search fields. You can set up an account to send you a weekly email on new funds that have been launched in your specialised research field.

The guide below take you through the step by step process of how to set up your account for fund updates. Staffordshire University pays a subscription to Research Professional, it can be accessed without a password from anywhere on campus please share it with your colleagues so we can get as much use from it as possible.

Leverhulme Research Programme Grants Factsheet

This factsheet gives details of the Leverhulme Trust Research Project Grants. These grants provide funding in almost any research area. The grants cover staffing time for Principal Investigators, research assistants and Post Graduate Students. They do not cover overhead costs.

Grants tend to be for around £250,000 for 2-3 years. There are three calls a year, but a quick stage one bid is made before submitting a full grant application.

European Institute of Innovation and Technology and Knowledge & Innovation Communities

Europe, like the rest of the world, is responding to the changing patterns of global competition and it is clear that there is a new imperative to address urgent societal challenges.

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology was set up to address these challenges. The EIT’s main activities are implemented through a distributed network of Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs). The KICs integrate partnerships of European education, research and business organisations – the components of the knowledge triangle – and also involve public authorities in these partnerships.
