Procrastination. What is it?

The action of delaying or postponing something.

Many of us, including me suffer with procrastination. I know what I want and how to get it but getting it done is the problem but we have to beat it.

How to beat it you ask? Well I’m here to give you a couple of tips for not only you but myself also:

  1. Realise that you’re procrastinating: Some of you may not actually know that you’re procrastinating but if you’re someone that does important tasks based on your mood or if you’re like me and you tell yourself “one YouTube video before work won’t hurt” then you’re definitely a procrastinator lol.
  2. Work out why you’re procrastinating: I for one procrastinate because I just don’t like the tasks that I have to do and I know there is something more fun I could be doing even though I’ll regret it in the long run. Another reason people may procrastinate is due to disorganisation. If you make a plan of what needs to be done and when it needs to be done you can make a plan to avoid it being done late and to limit stress.
  3. Come up with ways to avoid procrastination: Think of the consequences that may occur from you not completing a task e.g an essay. If you don’t give in your essay on time then your grade gets capped to 40% which means even if you worked your butt off and the essay was worth a first, you won’t get that grade you deserve just because you didn’t manage your time properly.

Reward yourself for completing certain tasks.

If your disorganised then make a to-do-list. If you have an iPhone there’s already one on there which will alert you (not sure about android sorry guys, I’m sure there’s an app if there’s not an in built one). Focus on your tasks one at a time rather than trying to do everything at once because that’ll make you more likely to stress and give up.

I hope these tips have helped someone who may have an essay due soon and is sat watching a film, eating ice cream lol! (I’m not doing that right now btw, promise.)
