The Perks of Being a Student

Shopping

When you are writing a million essays, attending lectures and running on no sleep, it is hard to see just how great it is to be a student. Yes, I know the graduate life full of debt and paying bills awaits us, but let’s take advantage of being a student now! There are so many good things that come with being a student, so sit back, relax and read more about all the advantages that exist for you as a student!

  1. The NUS extra card

If you do not have one of these, then you need to get one now! The NUS extra card is a discount card especially for students, meaning you can get 10% of things such as food, clothes and wonderful gadgets. Many shops accept this, so if you are a shopaholic like me, then you should definitely get one of these. They cost £12 for one year or £33 for 3 years and in my opinion they are a good investment. When you are trying to live on a  student budget, every little discount helps!

        2. Free Amazon Prime

Well, for the first 6 months (as a free trial). And then after that you can just cancel. But it is so useful to have when you want to buy that book or that phone case and get it shipped the next day for free! You can also stream lots of tv shows and movies and if you like to watch Twitch Streamers, you can use your Amazon Prime to subscribe to one of them for free, whilst also helping to support them financially.

       3. Spotify Premium

If you love your music and you are tired of listening to all those ads, then you can get Spotify Premium for £4.99 rather than £9.99 when using your student discount perks. You can also listen to any song you like offline…so take advantage of it now!

      4. Student Banking

As a student, there are lots of student bank accounts available that offer perks such as a nice overdraft (to use in emergencies, of course), cash back rewards and other good things. When choosing your bank account though, please choose wisely!

     5. Cheaper travel

If you are travelling back home every so often, it can all add up and be quite costly. With things like your NUS extra card, you can get a rail card which means you will save up to a third of train prices. You can also get discounted coach tickets…as I mentioned before, every little discount helps!

I hope that this has helped you to discover some new ways to save and enjoy being a student! Happy saving!
