Things in Stafford

For those coming from big cities like Birmingham and Manchester, Stafford itself will seem quite small. However there are a few things to do whilst here. I haven’t explored Stafford yet in all its glory, but I can talk about the things I do know about. I have created different subheadings so if you are interested in something in particular, you can read about it.

Shopping

You can find most shops in the town centre, which is only a 35-40 minute walk from the university, or you can get the bus. I will be honest, the town centre isn’t the biggest, and it doesn’t have the biggest selection of shops like you would find in other cities like Birmingham. Around the town centre you will find Asda, Tesco and Lidl, so there are a few places to do your food shopping. For shopaholics like myself, you will find New Look, River Island, Topshop and Dorothy Perkins. You will also find Boots, Poundland, WH Smith and all your regular shops you would expect to find in a town centre. The good thing is that Stafford has great travelling services so you can visit all your favourite shops in the big cities that are only one train journey away.

Food

Stafford has so many pubs, and even though I am not a pub girl, there are so many around. This is perfect for the days where the weather is great and you can go out for a drink with friends. In town there are a couple of Wetherspoons, which both serve great foods and drinks. You can also find a couple of McDonalds if that is what you fancy. Not so far from town you’ll find a retail park which also has a few food selections such as KFC. There are quite a few takeaway places for the days you cannot be bothered to cook, such as Dominos and Pizza Hut when you are craving pizza, and they both offer great deals for students. There are also quite a few chippies and chinese takeaways too!

Nightlife

Again, I have to be honest and say there are not too many clubs here in Stafford. If you fancy a drink, or two, or even three, there are many pubs and Wetherspoons around. The main places for clubbing in Stafford are Casa and Couture. Although I haven’t been to Casa yet, Couture is a great place to let your hair down and party. It is right in town aswell, so not too difficult to get to. On student night (which are Tuesdays), entrance is usually free before a certain time and drinks aren’t too expensive either. There are a couple of rooms which play different types of music, so there is something for everyone. Couture often has guest celebrities and if you’re lucky you can meet them, just like how I met the Chuckle Brothers there.
Mukky duck standing on stage in the students unionThere is the Students’ Union for uni students and every Friday there’s Mukky Duck which has cheap drinks and 3 different rooms of music. It’s a great place to meet people and have a nice night out.

These are the main areas or topics I wanted to discuss, and as I explore and discover more, I will surely share them with you all.

Ann 🙂

Hi! I'm a 3rd year Midwifery student, and in my spare time you'll usually find me reading, listening to music or buying things I don't need! When I graduate I'm looking forward to becoming a registered as a professional at 21, and making a difference. I’m #ProudToBeStaffs because the university is friendly and has a real community feel.
