The Reasons I Chose Staffs

Hello,

Now, I often get asked by my family and friends (that aren’t attending Staffs) why I chose to study at Staffordshire University. What I always found intriguing about that question is that there was never a ‘definitive’ answer. For me personally, these past two years (and now near the start of my final year) I found the whole university experience to be fantastic. I remember, writing a blog in my first year reflecting on how brilliant life at university was and I can still say, to this day… I love it. I am truly going to miss each and every day I spent at the university. I love the environment, the people and most of all… the little perks that come with studying here.

Let’s take a look at few…

  • Ember Pool Tables.

Right! This has to be my number one mention for this list. For me personally, enjoying a few games of pool with the lads in Ember Lounge has been one of the small highlights at university. There is nothing better than spending the end of the day, playing pool with your mates after a long hard day studying. Not only does it help you unwind and enjoy the company of your friends but it also allows you to relax in the comfort of a SU run environment.

  • Amazon Lockers

Now, this one is very vital for all of your shopaholics. There will come a day when you realize that your university email entitles you to SIX whole MONTHS of FREE Amazon Prime.  Let that just sink in. I remember spending the first six months of university buying a whole variety of gadgets and peripherals off Amazon and having them delivered safely to the Amazon Lockers near the LRV.

  • Meat Free Loyalty Card

This one is for all you vegetarians out there. I thought this one deserved a special mention as it’s only fair while I praise the amount of meat related dishes that I have to praise the vegetarian dishes. Now, what some of you may have not realized is that Ember offers a ‘Meat Free Loyalty Card’ for any purchase of a vegetarian dish. This loyalty card entitles you to a free vegetarian meal when you have dined on at least five vegetarian dishes. So, whether you like your veggie oatcakes or your veggie feasts… make sure you ask for a loyalty card. With Ember Lounge getting a re-vamp, it’ll be excited to see all the new types of dishes it will be offering.

  • The Secret Costa in the Library

If you’ve visited the Thompson Library opposite the film theatre, you may have noticed the intoxicating aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Nope, that isn’t your imagination. The university has its very own Costa Coffee situated within the library.

You can now study for your final exams in the library while enjoying a fresh pastry or a coffee without ever having to leave the library. Brilliant!

Now, those are just a few of the perks at studying at the university, however… I can assure you there is a lot more where that came from. I won’t be spoiling any more surprises for you as there is so much for you to discover here. I am about to start my third year and I am still finding brand new stuff at the university.

I’ll leave you with this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

Peace.

I’m Jaz! You’ve arrived at my blog about life through a 22-year old’s eyes. I’ve chosen Staffs to take the first steps for my career within the radio industry and hope it will lead me to being a sound designer and produce Radio Dramas/Documentaries for the BBC! I love drinking copious amounts of green tea and watching classic Doctor Who episodes. I’m #ProudToBeStaffs because of the amount of banter! Students – listen up - get involved with as much as you can. University tends to flyby when you are having fun.
