Dr. Caroline Sturdy Colls and Kevin Colls from the Centre of Archaeology have recently published an article about their research on the island of Alderney in the UK Channel Islands.
‘Reconstructing a painful past: A non-invasive approach to reconstructing Lager Norderney in Alderney, the Channel Islands’ has been published by Springer in Visual Heritage in the Digital Age, edited by Eugene Ch’ng, Vince Gaffney and Henry Chapman.
The chapter outlines some of the results of non-invasive archaeological work, undertaken by the authors, which has sought to record the remains of one of the main labour camps dating to the occupation of the island during the Second World War. The advantages of using techniques from the digital humanities, in light of the sensitive nature of the remains being examined, are also discussed.
