New Research Group in Forensic Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology

The Forensic Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology Research Group is a newly formed research group in the Department of Forensic and Crime Science at Staffordshire University. The group will give students the opportunity to learn about skeletal anatomy and the techniques used by forensic anthropologists and osteoarchaeologists in real-life cases. Each week students will apply their knowledge of human osteology to skeletal assemblages. The first five sessions will provide an introduction to human remains and the methods used to gain information about age, sex, and stature. The sixth meeting will give students the opportunity to learn how to identify pathological and traumatic lesions on skeletal remains. The final six weeks of the programme will involve conducting osteological analyses of the St. Mary’s skeletal collection housed in the department. The group is open to all students interested in the analysis of human skeletal remains and will be particularly useful for those that wish to pursue a career in forensic anthropology and/ or osteoarchaeology. If you would like further details about the group please contact Kirsty Squires (Kirsty.Squires@staffs.ac.uk).
